Mumbaikars took a break from scrolling their phone and indulged in old world activities like letter writing, mask making, sending postcards to friends and family, making paper boats and much more recently at Cuffe Parade. The Letter Writing Carnival, a day-long affair, had activities for both kids and adults, including a makeshift post office that was created where attendees could send letters, as well as interact with postmen, who could be spotted on their cycles with letter bags on their shoulders.
Experiencing what she had only heard from the elders in the family is what excited 20-year-old Ratan Mehra from Colaba. She said, “Writing letters and postcards to family members, listening to the gramophone, making paper boats and butterflies and sending letters to strangers as pen pals, made me experience the life the elders in my family reminisce about, a time before mobiles took over. I wish we can enjoy real-world activities more often.”
I enjoyed colouring and learning to make my own mandala keychain and bookmarks. I also made a mask that I will wear to my friend’s birthday party

I brought my 13-year-old daughter to this carnival for her to experience what we have all lived. She was fascinated by the whole letter-writing process and was excited to write letters to her friends
