Legislators blame ‘lax security’ at Delhi airport for drug flow to Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A major drug bust in Mangaluru by Karnataka police has raised concerns about security measures at New Delhi airport.
During a session praising Mangaluru police for their successful operation against drug trafficking, speaker UT Khader suggested that narcotics enter Karnataka through New Delhi airport, potentially with insider help.
While MLAs from various parties united to commend Karnataka and Mangaluru police, following home minister G Parameshwara’s briefing on the operation, arrests and seizures, Khader noted, “Previously, everyone pointed at Mangaluru as a source of drugs in Karnataka. But now, it is revealed that drugs are pushed into Karnataka from New Delhi.”
BJP MLA Harish Poonja from Belthangadi, Dakshina Kannada district, said the operation commenced in Bengaluru before culminating in Mangaluru. BJP state president BY Vijayendra alerted the govt about drug networks extending to taluk level, mentioning concerns about confiscated drugs re-entering circulation through police collaboration. He also requested vigilant monitoring.
The home minister acknowledged that police have been monitoring Delhi-Karnataka drug movement. “The govt congratulates officers and personnel who worked to achieve this feat. We take all suggestions from legislators seriously and the chief minister has also reiterated several times the zero tolerance towards drugs and narcotics in Karnataka.”
