Late-night sunroof stunt in Bengaluru: Couple fined Rs 1500 after video goes viral | Bengaluru News

BENGALURU: A couple seen standing through the sunroof of a moving SUV near Trinity Circle in the central business district has landed in soup after a video of their act surfaced on social media Monday night. The clip showed two individuals leaning out of the sunroof of an SUV bearing registration number KA-03-NR-2922 during a late-night drive Sunday. The video was filmed by a passerby, who later tagged city police online.Acting on the footage, police traced the vehicle Tuesday and issued a fine of Rs 1,500 to the SUV owner: Rs 1,000 for dangerous driving and Rs 500 for obstruction to traffic. A senior officer said the vehicle is registered to a private firm employee residing in Kammanahalli. “Using the registration details, we obtained the owner’s contact information through RTO records and called him to the station. He came in after a couple of hours,” the cop said.Although the video uploader alleged that the couple was kissing, police said there was no visual evidence to support this claim. “We fined them strictly for traffic violations,” the officer clarified.According to police, the SUV owner’s wife — who works at a separate firm — had invited her colleagues for dinner at a hotel in Koramangala. After the meal, the couple decided to take a short drive. While the woman was behind the wheel during the sunroof incident, the vehicle’s registered owner — her husband — was penalised. He is said to have told police that no inappropriate behaviour took place. Police issued a warning and advised him against repeating such actions in the future. No formal complaint has been lodged with law-and-order police.
