Land for permanent OUHS campus to be finalised soon: VC | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Land for establishing the permanent campus of Odisha University of Health Sciences (OUHS) will be finalised soon, vice-chancellor Manash Ranjan Sahoo said on Saturday while answering questions from prominent citizens at the launch of the TOI Citizen Reporter platform on Saturday.
“Now the OUHS is running from a temporary campus in the city. Shortly, people will get good news about the permanent campus of the university, which caters to the needs of all health institutes in the state. It will get its permanent campus soon,” said Sahoo.
Regarding the new initiatives, the VC said the university, which is only two years old, is coming up with several new plans. “We started implementing some of the plans to make health education people-centric in Odisha,” he added.
Sahoo said they started a faculty development programme for teaching staff of medical and dental colleges. “After joining the OUHS, I could feel our faculty and doctors need to be empowered and enriched with the latest developments in medical science and the latest teaching and research methodologies. Then we conducted a focused faculty development programme,” he added.
The university has started a PhD programme for the first time. “While moving around in medical colleges, I could feel research has taken a back seat, and we have to catch them young to train and orient our postgraduates in research,” said Sahoo.
He said there was no system to take care of external examiners’ travel and stay like the AIIMS system. “OUHS has now implemented the system as it’s happening in all AIIMS. External examiners’ airfare and hotel stay are all taken care of by the university. It ensures quality faculty from top-class medical institutions are coming as external examiners. It will improve quality and standards of examination, and the academic standard of our medical and dental students,” he added.
He said OUHS has changed the entire examination system by giving opportunities to every eligible faculty as per the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines so that even the junior-most faculty member now can become an internal examiner in any medical examination. “The system was implemented in the last MBBS exam. Hence, the involvement of every faculty in every department of medical/dental colleges will be excellent and will lead to positive academic outcomes and a better patient care environment,” he added.
