Berhampur: A 54-year-old labourer was suspected to have died of asphyxiation while trying to save two others who fell unconscious while cleaning a well at Ganianal, under Ganjam district’s Digapahandi police station limits, on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Dibakar Sahu of Narayanpur.
The three labourers were hired by a villager to clean his well.While two of them climbed down into the 12-feet-deep well, the deceased was standing outside, observing their work. Sources said, after a while, the two labourers stopped responding to Sahu’s calls. Then, Sahu climbed down into the well and managed to bring out the two.
However, Sahu himself felt unconscious. Informed by the locals, fire personnel from Digaphandi pulled out Sahu. Villagers took the three to a hospital in Digapahandi where doctors declared Sahu dead.The condition of the other two is said to be stable, police said.
