Mumbai: A sessions court recently convicted and sentenced a 27-year-old labourer to life imprisonment for strangling his wife to death at their home in 2021. The victim, Renuka, only 19, had married the accused, Vitthal Rathod, only a year before. The accused suspected her character.
“It is the admitted position that the accused and his wife Renuka were present at the premises, and there was no one else apart from them at the spot. The accused admitted his presence on the spot. If it was his case that Renuka committed suicide, he was required to explain the circumstances under which the suicide was committed,” the judge said. The judge refuted Rathod’s defence that Renuka fell and suffered injuries.
Among the witnesses cited by public prosecutor Geeta Sharma was the victim’s mother. tnn
