Kuwait Fire: Bodies of 2 workers killed in Kuwait fire reach their villages | Bhubaneswar News



Bhubaneswar/Berhampur: The mortal remains of two Odia workers, who were among the 45 Indians killed in a blaze in a seven-storey building in Kuwait on June 12, arrived in Bhubaneswar on Saturday morning.
Deputy chief ministers K V Singh Deo and Pravati Parida and pro-tem speaker Ranendra Pratap Swain, among others, visited the airport to pay homage to the victims, Santosh Kumar Gouda and Mohammad Jahur.
Gouda belonged to Ranajhai village under Purushottampur block in Ganjam while Jahur was a native of Karadapalli village under Tigiria police station limits in Cuttack district.
The state govt on Saturday announced ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to family members of both the deceased. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced Rs 2 lakh each ex gratia to the next of kin of the deceased. “Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced Rs 4 lakh ex gratia for the kin of the two Odias killed in the horrific fire accident in Kuwait. He has prayed to Lord Jagannath for the peace of the immortal soul with condolences to the bereaved family,” the CMO wrote on ‘X’.
A pall of gloom descended in Ranajhai and Karadapalli on Saturday, when the mortal remains of Santosh and Mohammad arrived. Locals and people from nearby areas gathered soon after the bodies reached their respective villages. The grief-stricken family members were inconsolable as the bodies reached their homes. Villagers paid last respects to the departed.
Gouda was working in a shopping mall in Kuwait for the past two years to support his family. Jahur was working as a laboratory technician in a private company and was the sole breadwinner of his family. His wife is seven-months’ pregnant, his family members said.
