NEW DELHI: The Kishanganj constituency is one of the 40 parliamentary seats in the state of Bihar, falling under the general category and boasting a literacy rate of 42.99%. The Kishanganj constituency went to the polls on April 26 in the phase 2 of the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
From this constituency, the notable contenders are Mohammad Jawed from the Indian National Congress, Babul Alam from the Bahujan Samaj Party, and Mujahid Alam from the Janata Dal (United).

In the 2019 general elections, Dr. Mohammad Jawed of the Indian National Congress emerged victorious with 366,820 votes, constituting 33.3% of the votes. The runner-up was Syed Mahmood Ashraf of the Janata Dal (United), securing 332,325 votes, accounting for 30.2% of the votes.
In the 2014 general elections, Mohammad Asrarul Haque, of the Indian National Congress, secured victory with 493,294 votes, capturing 54.1% of the votes. Dr. Dilip Kumar Jaiswal of the Bharatiya Janata Party was the runner-up with 298,762 votes, securing 32.8% of the votes.

According to the 2011 Census, around 6.3% of the voters belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category, and around 2.9% belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. Notably, Muslim voters constitute the majority, comprising around 65.2% of the electorate, as per the analysis of the voter list. According to the 2011 Census, the rural population dominates the voter list, constituting around 93.6% of the electorate, in contrast to urban voters, who make up around 6.4%. During the 2019 parliamentary election, Kishanganj witnessed a voter turnout of 66.1%.
