Kendrapada: Assistant collector of Khurda, Ashwini Kumar Nayak, and his driver sustained serious injuries after their SUV was involved in a head-on collision with a truck on National Highway-16 near Mulapada chowk in Jajpur district.
The accident occurred while Nayak, along with his driver, was travelling from Bhubaneswar to Balasore. According to Chinmayee Sahoo, inspector-in-charge of Kuakhia Police Station, a speeding truck rammed into the SUV and fled the scene immediately after the crash.
The injured duo was first rushed to the community health centre in Dharamsala. However, due to the severity of their injuries, they were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
The driver of the truck is currently absconding. “We have seized the damaged vehicle and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the truck involved in the accident,” said IIC Sahoo.
