Karnataka high court rejects bail petitions of Ranya Rao & Tarun Konduru Raju in gold smuggling case | Bengaluru News

Bengaluru: The high court has rejected the bail petitions of actors Ranya Rao and Tarun Konduru Raju, both accused in a gold smuggling case.
Justice S Vishwajith Shetty dismissed both their petitions Saturday, but details of the order aren’t yet available.
On March 27, the sessions court rejected Ranya’s bail petition. Prior to that, on March 14, the special court for economic offences, Bengaluru, denied her bail. On April 7, the special court refused bail to Tarun, a US citizen.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence informed the high court that since 2023, both petitioners together went to and returned from Dubai 34 times. The agency told the court that the arrest memo was given to Ranya’s husband, Jatin.
Ranya was intercepted at Bengaluru airport on March 3 and gold, weighing 14.2kg and valued at Rs. 12.6 crore, was recovered from her.
In his arguments, Ranya’s counsel submitted that the documents presented by DRI before the courts indicate manipulation, as different ones have been produced. He further claimed that the offences are compoundable in nature as the maximum sentence does not exceed seven years.
