Karnataka High Court Postpones Hearing on Sonu Nigam’s Controversial Remarks Case to May 15 | Bengaluru News

BENGALURU: The Karnataka high court adjourned the hearing of singer Sonu Nigam‘s petition until May 15. The petition seeks to nullify an FIR filed against him for allegedly making controversial remarks during a Bengaluru concert. The incident occurred when some attendees requested Kannada songs during his performance.Justice Shivashankar Amarannavar, presiding over a vacation bench, instructed that the case be listed for Thursday. This allows time for the petitioner to address certain administrative concerns raised by the registry. The police registered the FIR on May 3, charging Sonu Nigam under BNS Sections 351(2), 352(1), and 353, covering criminal intimidation, intentional insult provoking a breach of peace, and public mischief respectively. Dharma Raj Ananthaiah lodged the complaint at Bengaluru’s Avalahalli police station.According to the complainant, Nigam’s remarks caused distress to Kannadiga sentiments. The complaint stated that the singer’s comparison of a Kannada song request to the Pahalgam terrorist incident wrongly portrayed Kannadigas as intolerant, contradicting their peaceful nature.Subsequently, Sonu Nigam addressed the controversy through a social media video message.
