Kandhamal Town G Udayagiri Records Lowest Temperature of 9°C in Odisha | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district recorded the season’s lowest temperature of 9°C on Saturday, as most parts of the state experienced a sharp drop in the mercury levels at night.
The hill town’s unprecedented dip below 10°C triggered a surge in demand for winter wear among locals. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), several places across the state registered temperatures below 20°C, with Phulbani recording the second-lowest of 12.5°C.
Significant temperature drops were observed in Angul and Jharsuguda, both recording 13°C, marking deviations of 4.8°C and 4.1°C below normal, respectively. Bhubaneswar logged 17.4°C, slightly below normal, while neighbouring Cuttack recorded 17°C, registering a 1.7°C drop from the normal.
Rourkela experienced dense fog, with visibility dropping below 50 metres. The IMD forecast the cool weather will continue for the next four-five days, with temperatures likely to fall by 2-3°C across many locations.
“The current wind pattern favours a continuous drop in minimum temperatures across the state,” said Manorama Mohanty, scientist and head of the regional IMD centre here.
Former director of the regional IMD centre, Sarat Chandra Sahu, predicted cold wave-like conditions in many areas by Sunday. “We expect a further temperature drop from Nov 19, likely lasting a week,” Sahu said, attributing the drop to clear skies, north-northeasterly dry cold winds, and decreased humidity levels of around 30% during the day.
