Kandhamal admn installs ‘health ATMs’ for 60 different tests | Bhubaneswar News
Berhampur: In a significant step towards enhancing healthcare facilities, the Kandhamal administration recently installed ‘health ATM machines’ in selected health centres.
The machines, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, allow patients to access around 60 different health tests. They were installed in collaboration with an NGO and a financial services group, in the primary health centres (PHCs) in Phiringia, Nuapadara, Gochhapada, Balandapada, and a sub-centre at Sadangia.
“The machine allows basic health check-up, eye tests, ENT, skin and nail check-up, blood tests, lipid profile test, among others,” said Santosh Kumar Padhy, chief district medical officer (CDMO) of Kandhamal. The machine provides quick and more efficient test reports, he said.
The machine can also function on solar power, so lack of electricity won’t be an issue. “Patients in rural areas will benefit from it, as they can consult with doctors over phone and send reports through WhatsApp or email,” he said.
The project was launched in collaboration with the National Health Mission-Odisha under its ‘Swagat- A first 1,000 Days’. “The project aims to develop a model for improving the quality of maternal, newborn, child health, and nutrition (MNCHN) care and services,” said Pradeep Mishra, programme head of the NGO.
“To address key health and nutrition challenges, innovative solutions like health ATMs are being introduced in selected healthcare institutes on a pilot basis in the district,” he said.
At the PHC in Phiringia, a live demonstration was conducted by technicians and medical officers, highlighting the function and benefits of the health ATM.
