Kalyan rape-murder: 13-yr-old girl’s parents seek death for couple | Mumbai News – Times of India

Kalyan: A special Pocso court in Kalyan on Thursday extended by two days the police custody of Vishal Gawli and his wife Sakshi who have been accused of abducting, raping, and murdering a 13-year-old girl on Dec 23.
Even as the couple was produced before district judge and additional sessions judge V A Patravale at the end of their seven-day police custody, the girl’s parents, who were in court, demanded death penalty for them.
Vishal’s lawyer Sanjay Dhanke requested the court to allow a family member to stay with him in police custody to “prevent an encounter similar to that of Akshay Shinde”, who was accused of sexually abusing two four-year-old girls in a Badlapur school. However, the court turned down the plea.
Vishal allegedly kidnapped the girl with the help of Sakshi, his third wife, on Dec 23. He allegedly raped the girl and killed her. The couple stuffed the body in a bag, took an auto to Bapgaon on Kalyan-Padgha road and dumped the body there, police claimed. The body was recovered on Dec 24 and Sakshi was arrested the same night. Vishal was arrested the next day from Shegaon in Buldhana.
Sakshi’s lawyer, Priyesh Singh, claimed that her client was unaware that Vishal was carrying the girl’s body in the bag and assumed it was a dead animal. But the public prosecutor argued that Sakshi was aware of the murder and she helped her husband in dumping the body.
Police informed the court that they had seized the clothes Vishal was wearing on Dec 23, and evidence from his house, Bapgaon, and Shegaon. Police, however, sought extension of custody, saying they are yet to recover the SIM card and the bag that the accused discarded in Kasara ghat, as well as the girl’s clothes. After hearing both sides, the judge extended the couple’s custody by two days.
Before the hearing began, several residents gathered outside the court and demanded death penalty for the accused. “We want the case to be fast-tracked and the accused to be hanged to death,” said Vandana Sonawane and Vinod Tiwari.
