Kalbadevi wall collapse: FIR against contractor, others for causing death by negligence – Times of India
Mumbai: The LT Marg Police on Tuesday registered a case for causing death by negligence against the contractor and others in connection with the collapse of a compound wall adjoining Gandhi building, Fanaswadi, Kalbadevi, where two labourers died, and one was injured on Monday.
Sources said those named in the FIR were contractor Shehzad Siddiqui and others.According to police, the contractor, who is from Antop Hill, had hired workers for cleaning a clogged drain. Police have now issued him a notice, asking him to appear for an investigation.
After the compound wall adjoining a Mhada building collapsed suddenly on Monday afternoon, quick-thinking locals managed to get the workers out quickly before the fire brigade arrived on the scene. Sanny Kanojiya, who survived the incident, is currently in a stable condition.
Eyewitnesses said there was a loud and terrifying thud. “We were taking an afternoon nap when we heard the sound of the wall crashing down. When we came outside, a large number of people were already crowding the gully. It was dusty and grainy,” said an owner of the house in front of the collapsed wall.
Prashant Sarang, Divisional Fire Officer, praised the quick actions of the locals, and noted that they initiated rescue efforts before the fire brigade arrived. “The wall was very, very old, and may be because of that, it fell. We rushed to the scene as quickly as possible, but locals had already begun the crucial work of clearing the debris and helping the victims. Our team then took over to complete the rescue operation,” Sarang added.
