Patna: A group of robbers belonging to the ‘kachcha baniyan’ gang targeted a house on the outskirts of Chhatna village under Parsa Bazar police station area in Patna late Wednesday night. Wearing half-pants and vests, the robbers took the family members hostage at gunpoint and escaped with Rs 40,000 in cash and gold and silver ornaments, police said.
At least seven to eight robbers entered the house of one Shivam Kumar Pandit through the terrace using bamboo sticks.“According to the victims, they were carrying spades, sticks, stones and knives. The miscreants took the family members hostage and snatched the gold and silver jewellery from the women. They also broke open the almirah lock and took all the cash. The victims told the police that three to four robbers were guarding outside the house, while the others committed the robbery,” SHO Maneka Rani said.
She added the faces of the accused were not covered and they were in the age group of 22 to 30 years. “A complaint has been registered and the police are conducting raids to nab them,” the SHO said.
According to the police, the house of the victim was surrounded by paddy fields and there was no proper road to reach the area. Four newly built houses are in the vicinity, including Shivam’s, but no one lives in the others. The police found the footprints of the robbers in the remaining three houses and assumed they visited there first but could not find anything to steal.
Maneka told this newspaper on Thursday that members of the ‘kachcha baniyan’ gang target houses that are built in secluded places.
