Cuttack: Justice Harish Tandon, presently a judge at Calcutta High Court, is likely to be appointed Chief Justice of Orissa High Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium on Thursday recommended Justice Tandon’s appointment to fill up the vacancy that has emerged following the retirement of Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh on Jan 19.
According to the statement released by the Collegium, Justice Harish Tandon was appointed as a judge of Calcutta HC on April 13, 2010.
Justice Tandon graduated in law from Calcutta University in 1983. He then extensively practised in Calcutta high court after he was enrolled as an advocate in 1989.
“He has acquired extensive experience in dispensing justice. He is considered to be a competent judge and possesses a high level of integrity and conduct required of a person holding high judicial office. Having regard to all relevant factors, the Collegium is of the considered view that Justice Harish Tandon is fit and suitable in all respects for being appointed as Chief Justice of the High Court of Orissa,” the statement said.
