Justice Harish Tandon appointed new CJ of Orissa HC | Bhubaneswar News



Cuttack: Centre on Friday appointed Justice Harish Tandon as the new chief justice of Orissa high court.
The post was vacant after Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh retired on Jan 19. Seniormost judge Arindam Sinha has since been officiating as the acting chief justice.
A notification issued by the ministry of law and justice on Friday said, “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Harish Tandon, Judge of the Calcutta high court, to be Chief Justice of the Orissa high court, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”
Justice Arindam Sinha has been transferred to the Allahabad HC. Earlier, the Supreme Court collegium had recommended appointment of Justice Tandon as CJ of Orissa HC on March 6.
Justice Tandon who graduated in law from Calcutta University in 1983, extensively practised in civil matters in Calcutta HC after he was enrolled as an advocate in 1989. He was appointed as judge of Calcutta HC on April 13, 2010.TNN
