‘Just loot it’: BJP takes ‘commission sarkara’ jibe on Siddaramaiah govt with Nike slogan parody | Bengaluru News

NEW DELHI: The Karnataka BJP has intensified its attack on the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government, dubbing it the “commission sarkara.”
The party shared a satirical video on its X handle featuring CM Siddaramaiah‘s portrait along with a Nike-style graffiti, captioned “Just Loot It @ flat 60% commission,” parodying the brand’s famous ‘Just Do It’ slogan.
The BJP’s latest criticism follows the submission of a 20,000-page report by the Justice H N Nagamohan Das Commission on Wednesday.
The commission, set up to probe allegations of a ‘40% commission’ during the previous BJP administration, has drawn attention to corruption allegations in government tender works.
The “40% commission” scandal had been a significant issue during the run-up to the 2023 Karnataka assembly elections, with the Congress using it as a key campaign plank to wrest power from the BJP.
The Karnataka State Contractors’ Association had filed a complaint, alleging that contractors were required to pay more than 40% as commission for securing government contracts.
The commission’s report, which examined complaints from the public and contractors, includes a detailed inquiry into works carried out between July 26, 2019, and March 31, 2023. The investigation, which involved file inspections, site visits, and account audits, covered five major state departments. The commission also looked into public allegations about the “package system,” which allegedly benefitted outside contractors.
The commission was formed in August 2023 with a three-month deadline, which was later extended until May 2024, and again until March 2025. The Contractors’ Association had previously written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2021, alleging that contractors were being forced to pay a 25-30% cut for beginning civil works and an additional 5-6% for post-work bill approvals.
