Just day after quitting BJP over 'Hindi imposition', Tamil actor Ranjana Nachiyaar joins Vijay's TVK

NEW DELHI: A day after resigning from the BJP, actor-turned-politician Ranjana Nachiyaar joined fellow actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Wednesday.
Nachiyaar attended TVK’s first-anniversary celebration hosted by Vijay at a private resort in Mahabalipuram earlier in the day. She had been with the BJP for eight years.
In her resignation letter, which she shared on X, Nachiyaar cited her discontent with the BJP, pointing to “the imposition of the three-language policy,” “hatred towards the Dravidian ideology,” and the party’s “neglect of Tamil Nadu.”
She emphasised that Tamil Nadu’s prosperity was crucial for the nation’s overall well-being and claimed the BJP did not provided an environment for her political growth.

‘Political tool’

Meanwhile, AIADMK MP M Thambidurai accused the ruling DMK government of leveraging the language issue as a political strategy ahead of elections.
Speaking to the media, he criticized the state’s stance on the New Education Policy (NEP), arguing that the government permits CBSE schools—where multiple languages are taught—while simultaneously opposing Hindi.
“The present state government is giving permission to many CBSE schools. Let Stalin insist on withdrawing all the CBSE schools in Tamil Nadu, then the language problem would be solved. There are all the languages in the CBSE schools, if they come then the National Education Policy comes. Why can’t the ministers take a stand that there must be only two languages? You (the state government) have allowed CBSE schools. The Hindi language and the National Education Policy come with it,” he said.
“DMK is part of that game. The elections are coming, so the language issue is coming up. Stalin is using sentiments to attract votes. The government is to give the facilities and welfare to the people. The language issue is coming up to divert from the issues,” he added.
On Monday, DMK cadres staged a protest near the Trichy central bus stand in Tiruchirappalli against the Trilingual Language System in Tamil Nadu. Party members distributed pamphlets to raise awareness about their opposition to the policy.
The DMK has consistently opposed any perceived imposition of Hindi, arguing that it threatens Tamil culture and identity. Earlier, DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan voiced concerns over the policy’s impact on education in Tamil Nadu, accusing the central government of attempting to “impose religious ideas on the education system.”
