Junior Doctors: Junior doctors end strike after government intervention | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Junior doctors and interns of state-run medical colleges called off their cease work after discussions with govt officials here on Friday evening. They had been staging a protest for the last 12 days, demanding justice for the raped and murdered PGT doctor of Kolkata and protection for healthcare providers working in clinical establishments.
Representatives of associations for junior doctors, interns, and undergraduate medical students attended a meeting chaired by the health and family welfare department secretary to discuss the future course of their protest.
They requested the govt to take steps towards making a policy for providing a safe workplace in health institutions.
They also urged govt to consider their protest period as duty period because they were attending emergency duty during that time. Subrat Kumar Sahoo, president of Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA), SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, attended the meeting physically, while representatives of other JDAs, interns, and medical students connected through videoconferencing.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar medicos resumed their duties by wearing black badges from Friday following the SC’s appeal to doctors to return to work. However, junior doctors, interns, and resident doctors took out a candlelight march after duty hours.
