BHUBANESWAR: Continuity seemed to be the buzzword of Prime Minister Narendra Modi govt’s third term in office with Dharmendra Pradhan and Ashwini Vaishnaw retaining their ministries from the last Cabinet.
While Sambalpur MP Dharmendra was retained as Union education minister, Ashwini was once again given charge of railways and Information Technology, along with the portfolio of information and broadcasting.
Jual Oram, who made his way back to the Modi-led Cabinet, also retained the tribal affairs ministry, which he had twice held in the past.
Jual was country’s 1st tribal affairs minister in AB Vajpayee tenure
Jual was India’s first tribal affairs minister after the ministry was created by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1999. He had held the same portfolio in Modi’s first term.
“I am thankful to Prime Minister Modi for once again reposing faith in me. We will further work to strengthen various initiatives for the welfare of tribals and their empowerment in education, health, skills and jobs,” Jual said.
The six-time MP, elected from the tribal-reserved Sundargarh seat, has been a strong advocate of tribal upliftment and welfare of poorer sections of society.
During his tenure in Modi’s cabinet, he initiated various programmes aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of tribal communities, focusing on education, healthcare and employment to ensure that the benefits of development reached the most marginalized sections of society.
Perceived as a performer, Ashwini has got the additional charge of information and broadcasting to go with the ministry of railways and Information Technology, he held the last term.
Rolling out the Vande Bharat Express and massive overhaul and modernization of railway infrastructure during the past five years defined Ashwini’s success story.
Dharmendra also retained the education portfolio he held in Modi’s second term in power.
Thanking the prime minister on behalf of the 4.5 crore people of Odisha for retaining him in the Union Cabinet, Dharmendra said, “People are counting on the Prime Minister to accelerate the pace of progress in India. Work has started from today to make the country a ‘Developed India’ by 2047.
