Mumbai: A special court on Tuesday remanded a junior passport assistant and a passport agent to CBI custody until Friday in a corruption case. The duo, Aakash Rathee and Sanjeev Rahi, are accused of clearing passport applications of individuals in exchange for bribes. It is also alleged that, in some instances, passports were issued on the basis of forged documents. The CBI said one of the persons under their scanner fled the country with the help of a passport obtained through forged documents.Seeking their custody, CBI submitted that the accused posed a great threat to national security and also committed offences of forgery and cheating. “…it is also imperative for seeking custodial interrogation of the accused persons in order to confront them with other officers who have verified and granted the passports on forged documents…,” CBI plea said. tnn
