Keonjhar: Additional district judge Mamita Das Tuesday sentenced Amar Singh Birua (35) to life imprisonment for the murder of Ramachandra Naik in 2015. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict. He would have to serve an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment if he fails to pay the amount.
Birua, a resident of Dubila village in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, was found guilty of murdering Naik, who went missing from his home in Sundura village on March 25, 2015. The victim’s body was found by his son on Basantpur road.
According to public prosecutor Prafulla Kumar Patra, the victim’s son Mana Naik suspected Birua’s involvement in the murder and filed a complaint at Nayakote police station on March 31, 2015. Police arrested Birua. The court’s verdict was based on testimonies from 19 witnesses and police investigation report.
