Jeweller succumbs to bullet injury 4 days after attack

Patna: A mob blocked the Manjhi-Barauli Road for over four hours on Monday, protesting against the murder of a jeweller in Siwan district.
They placed his body on the road and burnt tyres in Jagdishpur Bazar locality demanding immediate action against the culprits and security to the business community.
According to police, the deceased, Chandan Prasad (34), a resident of Sani Basantpur village under the G B Nagar police station, was shot by bike-borne miscreants during a loot attempt on July 11.He was admitted to a hospital in Gorakhpur where he succumbed to his bullet injuries on Monday. Chandan used to run a jewellery shop in Jagdishpur market.
“The deceased’s family members and local residents became furious when his body was brought to his home. The criminals involved in the firing have not yet been identified yet. Two miscreants on a motorcycle had shot Chandan while he was returning home from his shop. They snatched his bag containing cash and gold jewellery worth Rs 8 lakh near his home, and fled the spot. He was rushed to the sadar hospital from where he was referred to a hospital in Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) in critical condition, but he did not survived,” said G B Nagar SHO, Akhilesh Prasad.
The SHO said an FIR was filed on July 12 against two unknown persons based on the statements of Chandan in connection with the loot and firing case.
“We are conducting raids at all possible hideouts of the criminals involved. They will be nabbed soon,” he added.
