JD(U) takes jibe at RJD over its lantern symbol | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: Ahead of the last phase of polling in Bihar, JD(U), headed by chief minister Nitish Kumar, on Friday asked the people to disconnect power connection from their homes to feel its importance if they want to vote for “lantern”, the poll symbol of Lalu Prasad-led RJD.
A total of eight Lok Sabha seats are going to polls in the final phase of elections in the state on Saturday.
“Waise log jinhe lalten se pyar hai jara ghar ke bijli ka connection is bhyankar tapis me katwa lijiye (Those love the ‘lantern’, just disconnect the power connections from homes in this scorching summer),” JD(U)’s chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar told the media here on Friday.
Kumar, a former minister, said Nitish had brought electricity to every home that has accelerated the pace of development in the state. He said until people experience “darkness” and “brutal” heat in this blistering heat, they would not understand the importance of comfort they are enjoying due to the abundant power supply in their homes.
Describing the observations of Kumar as sheer nonsense, RJD said it was strange to comment over the poll symbol issued by the Election Commission (EC). “They are passing comments over lantern. We want to ask them what’s the use of JD (U)’s symbol ‘arrow’ in times of missiles and rocket launchers? What purpose will an arrow serve in today’s time? Again, BJP’s lotus blooms in mud, and what will the people do with mud? These are nonsense talks,” RJD spokesperson Chitranjan Gagan said.
He added that most of the homes still don’t have power inverters and it’s the lan tern which lights up homes in times of emergency.
Congress said the JD(U) was making such comments out of frustration of losing seats in the state. “Lantern is life. Lantern symbolizes light and hope,” Congress legislature party leader in Bihar assembly, Shakeel Ahmad Khan said. Stating that the poll symbols are allotted by the EC, Khan said by questioning the lantern, the JD(U) is questioning the poll body authority.
The INDIA bloc is locked in a straight fight with the NDA on most of the seats in the state this time.
Polling will be held in Nalanda, Patna Sahib, Patliputra, Ara, Buxar, Sasaram, Karakat and Jehanabad on Saturday.
