Koraput: Police in Malkangiri district on Monday registered a case against jatra artiste Bhagyashree Sahoo, popularly known as ‘Sahoo Bhauja’, for allegedly performing an obscene dance during a show.
The performance took place on Saturday night at the ongoing Kotameta festival under Malkangiri police station limits. According to police, a case was filed under Section 296 of BNS against Sahoo for the alleged presentation of obscene acts and songs during the show. “A case has also been registered against the organisers of the jatra show,” said additional superintendent of police (ASP) Tapan Kumar Rath.
In addition to the case against the artiste and organisers, a departmental inquiry was initiated against inspector in-charge (IIC) of Mathili police station, Debabrata Mallik. Reports suggest that Mallik was present at the event when the performance was going on. “Mallik is under investigation for his presence at the show,” Rath added.
