Jan Aushadhi Kendras: Affordable Lifesavers at Railway Stations | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) in the East Central Railway (ECR) are emerging as a vital lifeline for the common people, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. These centres, located at Samastipur, Darbhanga, Patna Junction and DDU, are providing life-saving medicines at much lower prices, said ECR’s chief public relations officer (CPRO) Saraswati Chandra.
The PMBJK initiative has proven to be a boon for the poor and common people who struggled with the high cost of pharmaceuticals. “With stations serving as strategic locations for easy access, these kendras are catering to the needs of railway passengers and local people, offering medicines from general health to chronic diseases at low prices,” he said.
According to Samastipur divisional railway manager (DRM) Vinay Srivastava, Jan Aushadhi Kendras at Samastipur and Darbhanga have received a good response so far with a footfall of 200 to 250 consumers daily. “To buy necessary medication at a very low cost, common people need not go to far-off places now,” he said, adding that the success of the PMBJKs is being attributed to their strategic location, which allows access to vital health supplies around the clock to people.
In addition, medicines are being made available at 50% to 90% lower prices than market rates. These kendras are functioning in line with the railway’s commitment to serve the people, especially those in urgent need of medicines, the DRM said.
According to Danapur DRM Jayant Kumar Choudhary, the Jan Aushadhi Kendra at Patna Junction has come as a great relief for the common people.
According to Sonepur DRM Vivek Bhushan Sood, the railways allotted the first Jan Aushadhi Kendra at Hajipur station in the Sonepur division of the ECR for which the required infrastructure is ready now for its inauguration soon. “PMBJKs registered a total sale of medicines up to Rs 1,000 crore this year till October 2024 across the country,” he said.
