Jajpur’s Maa Biraja Temple Beautification Project to be Completed Under Chief Minister Majhi’s Directive | Bhubaneswar News


Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Mohan Majhi on Monday issued a directive to complete the ongoing Maa Biraja Temple beautification project in Jajpur within the stipulated time while reiterating the govt’s commitment in ensuring the shrine’s comprehensive development. “State govt is committed to the development and beautification of this ancient and revered shakti peetha and various approved projects for this purpose are currently underway.Additionally, if required, new projects will be implemented to ensure the holistic development of the temple,” Majhi said.
“Recognised as one of the prominent shakti peethas of national importance, ‘Biraja Kshetra’ in Jajpur holds a significant place in the religious and spiritual consciousness of the people of Odisha,” Majhi added.
He further said, “References to Maa Biraja are found in the Mahabharata, Adi Shankaracharya’s Shakti Peetha Stotra and the Vamana Purana. Known as the Nabhi Gaya, the shrine is renowned for its historical and cultural significance. The people of Odisha share deep devotion and unwavering faith in Maa Biraja.”
According to sources, the previous BJD govt started the development and beautification of the Biraja temple and its campus, like other heritage sites of the state. The project was aimed at giving a facelift to the shrine, encircling 54 Shiva temples, Muktimandap, Dolamandap, Ananda Bazaar and shops in and around its premises. There are plans for the construction of a temple administration building, along with modern amenities for the visitors. The target is to beautify the temple along the lines of Puri Srimandir and Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar, sources said.
