Jajpur villages flooded after three days of rain

Kendrapada: After three days of relentless rain caused by low pressure over the Bay of Bengal, the riverside villages in Jajpur district’s Dasarathpur block are now waterlogged.
“Rivers Baitarani and Kani, along with their tributaries, are swelling, increasing the flood threat to Kasapa, Duduranta, Malikapur, Duttpur, Katikata, Jayantara, Nizampur, Sisua, Kaya, Kamaradiha, and Khannagar in the Dasarathpur block, which has a population of around 50,000.The incessant rain has also completely paralysed life in many low-lying areas of the district,” said Ashok Behera, the district emergency officer.
Behera added that the water level in the Baitarani river near Akhuapada in Bhadrak district reached 17.5 meters on Wednesday, prompting Jajpur district authorities to issue an alert. He also said that the district administration has deployed 36 boats, 11 fire brigade teams, and one Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) team for rescue and relief operations.
Jajpur collector Anvesha Reddy, additional district magistrate Suvendhu Kumar Samal, Dasarathpur block development officer Akash Samal, and other officials visited the riverside villages on Wednesday to assess the situation.
In an emergency meeting, the district administration assessed the impact of flooding. “The administration has stocked rice, flattened rice, molasses, kerosene, and other essentials in all gram panchayat offices and block headquarters,” said collector Anvesha Reddy.
