Accident victim released after plastic surgery at IGH

Rourkela: Doctors at Ispat General Hospital (IGH) here have successfully performed a plastic surgery on an 18-year-old accident victim from Banki Karamtoli hamlet who suffered multiple injuries on his head, eyeball and face. He was discharged on Jan 3 after a week of careful monitoring and recovery.
According to a press release, he arrived with a minor head injury, a laceration on the left side of his face, and a downward-outward displacement of the left eyeball on Dec 26, 2024. Diagnostic evaluations revealed a complex fracture involving the left fronto-zygomaticomaxillary complex and the orbital floor. The procedure involved fixation of the fractures using mini-plates and screws, along with suturing of the facial lacerations. Despite the inability to assess the patient’s vision preoperatively, the surgical team successfully restored his eyesight. Post-surgery, the patient could count fingers at a distance of 6 ft, and full eyelid movement was restored.
The operation was led by Dr G S Sahoo, a plastic surgery specialist, with key contributions from Dr Ruby Singh, senior consultant (plastic surgery), and Dr Smita Kujur, senior consultant in anaesthesia.
