ISC 90% club grows in Maharashtra, ICSE shrinks

Mumbai: The number of 90%-plus scorers in ISC exams increased significantly this year both nationally and in the state, shows CISCE data, indicating these students could have a better representation in top-rung city colleges during degree college admissions. While last year 15,945 scored 90-95%, this year, the number has risen to 20,381 nationally. In Maharashtra, the corresponding number has gone up marginally to 1,211 compared with 1,129 in 2024. There is, though, a significant jump in the number of students scoring 95%-plus. Nationally, the number rose to 6,696 as against 3,552 in 2024, and in Maharashtra, too, it rose to 499 this year as against 339 in 2024.
A similar jump, though, was not witnessed in top scoring students in ICSE. The number of 90% scorers only went up marginally, by 100 nationally from 56,495 last year to 56,596 this time. While nationally, the largest chunk of students has scored between 80-90% followed by 70-80%, in the state, the highest number of students is in the 80-90% group, followed by 90-95%. Though students bagging 95% and above increased nationally, in the state, the number dropped to 4,756 compared with 5,230 last year. Joseph Emmanuel, chief executive and secretary of CISCE, speaking about better ISC results, said the council had introduced competency-based questions last year, but it was the first time and many may have found it difficult. “But this year the students got familiar with it and teachers also trained students well.” tnn
