Patna: Governor-cum-chancellor of universities, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, on Saturday urged the authorities of Patliputra University (PPU) to introduce new courses in defence science and yoga.
Presiding over the eighth senate meeting of PPU at J D Women’s College, Arlekar encouraged more academic-focused discussions among senate members and faculty, steering away from frivolous topics.“Despite being a newer university compared to others in Bihar, PPU has the potential for significant improvement. We should now highlight PPU for its quality teaching and academic environment,” Arlekar said.
He called for imparting morality-based education, lamenting the commercialization of education and likening it to industrialization for personal gains. “Education’s purpose is to serve society comprehensively,” he said.
Welcoming guests, PPU vice-chancellor R K Singh highlighted the university’s efficient academic operations, including admissions, timely examinations, and result declarations for both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, despite challenges. He announced the state govt’s allocation of Rs 216 crore for a new campus in Bakhtiyarpur. “The university will lay the foundation of the new campus soon,” he said.
The vice-chancellor said the PPU was constructing a dedicated PG facility on B S College campus, Danapur, to meet immediate needs in arts, science, and commerce PG education.
PPU’s dean of students’ welfare, A K Nag, said the meeting focused on academic discussions and enhancing research activities. Registrar N K Jha assured senate members of achieving UGC’s mandatory 12 B and 2(f) registrations for PPU soon. Pro-VC Ganesh Mahto concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging contributions and commitments to furthering PPU’s academic vision.
