Internship: Two engineering students drown during internship at NITR | Bhubaneswar News
Rourkela: Two third-year BTech students, who were pursuing a summer internship programme in NIT Rourkela, drowned in the Brahmani river on Saturday. Four other students, including two girls, were rescued.
Sources said six engineering students of other institutes came to NITR for their summer internship from May to July and were lodged in the institute’s hostel.On Saturday, they went to the Brahmani river near the shrine to take bath when the six started drowning.
Locals present there rescued four of them and two others were brought up later. The rescued students were shifted to Rourkela Govt Hospital (RGH) where two of them were declared brought dead. The deceased were identified as Rajat Sahu of Jaleswar in Balasore and Samiran Sukumar Nayak of Raghunathpur, Patia.
“We have informed the family members of the deceased students. The other four students, who were rescued, are stable,” said Rohan Dhiman, registrar of NITR.
“The students had gone on their own. We are thinking that we will start biometric attendance system for our students as well as those pursuing internship to be able to ascertain who has left the premises,” he added.
Brahmani Tarang police reached the RGH and started inquiry. The bodies are in the morgue to conduct post mortem.
