MUMBAI: The body of the two-year-old girl was found around 4 kms away in the water, where the 28-year-old mother was found tied to a large boulder near a stream in Manor on Monday. The victim’s brother-in-law and sister-in-law have been held for the double murder.
Sushmita Davre’s body was found around 3.30pm on Monday in Savre village. Upon identifying the victim, authorities discovered that her husband, Praveen, was away on a fishing boat, and their daughter was missing.A case of murder and abduction was filed against an unidentified individual, and police teams were formed to locate the child and the killer.
During questioning, Praveen’s younger brother, Sandeep Davre, initially denied any knowledge of the child’s whereabouts but later confessed to killing both the mother and daughter. Sushmita’s body was tied to a large boulder and dumped in a nearby stream, while the child’s body was disposed of in the water about four kilometres away. Sandeep also implicated his sister, Suman Karbat, in the murders. The bodies were retrieved and sent for autopsy, with initial findings suggesting that the victims were strangled.
Investigators believe that the murders were motivated by a property dispute within the family. Praveen, his wife, and their daughter had recently moved into a makeshift hut on their land, while Sandeep and Suman lived in separate homes nearby.
