Indo-Pak tensions: 13 Karnataka students shifted from Kashmir to New Delhi

Bengaluru: Thirteen students from Karnataka studying at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology in Srinagar have been safely shifted to New Delhi following intervention by the Centre amid escalating tensions in the Valley.The move came in response to security concerns following the terror attack in Pahalgam and subsequent escalation in Indo-Pak tensions. The Centre had closed borders in parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Gujarat, leaving numerous civilians and students stranded.The Karnataka studentswere transported by bus from Srinagar to Jammu before continuing their journey to Delhi by train. Senior ministry officials monitored the operation, with personnel from the ministry of steel and heavy industries meeting the students at the railway station in Delhi.Union minister for steel and heavy industries HD Kumaraswamy said: “The safety of our people, especially students far from home, is our top priority.Every effort was made to ensure their well-being.”Officials maintained contact with the group throughout their journey, providing updates to their families. The students expressed relief and gratitude for the prompt action. Harshith, one of the students, said: “We were really anxious when the situation escalated in the region. But the govt’s response reassured us.”Another student, Bhagyashree Prasad, said: “It was a difficult time, but we never felt abandoned. The support we received made us feel secure throughout.”
