India Invites Entries for 6th National Water Awards 2024 | Bhubaneswar News



Bhubaneswar: Department of water resources has invited entries for the 6th National Water Awarda 2024, instituted by the Union ministry of Jal Shakti.
In a letter, secretary of water resources department, Anu Garg, asked different departments, district administrations, urban local bodies, schools and voluntary organisations to nominate a nodal officer and start documenting the initiatives in the field of water conservation for submissions to the ministry for the award.
“As you are aware, the ministry of Jal Shakti is providing National Water Awards to state govts, districts, urban local bodies, schools, and other voluntary institutions for the excellent work done in the field of water conservation and management,” the letter read.
Garg said that since Odisha was conferred the first prize in ‘water conservation and water management’ category in the 5th National Water Awards last year, it should be a priority to maintain the position next year as well.
“Recently, the govt of India opened a window for the states to participate in the 6th National Water Award 2024. The department of water Resources intends to submit applications for the award following the guidelines prescribed by the ministry,” Garg wrote.
As per the guidelines, departments, schools and other entities that did good work in the field of water conservation and management between Aug 2023 and Nov 2024 will be considered for the award.
The awards will be presented in nine different categories — ‘Best State’, ‘Best District’, ‘Best School or College’, ‘Best Institution’ (other than school and college), ‘Best Urban Local Body’, ‘Best Village Panchayat’, ‘Best Water User Association’, ‘Best Industry’ and ‘Best Civil Society’.
The last date for submitting the entries is Dec 31. The ministry recognises work done in the field of water conservation and management with trophies and cash prizes ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
