A yellow warning has been issued for one or two places in Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Boudh, Sonepur, and Sambalpur districts, indicating the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging from 7 to 20 cm.
Additionally, heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) is expected in various districts, including Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada, Nayagarh, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Kalahandi on Thursday.
The local Met office has cautioned that certain parts of Cuttack city may experience one or two spells of intense rain. “It can cause water logging in low-lying areas, occasionally poor visibility and traffic disruption. People are advised to keep a watch on the weather and act accordingly,” the office added.
According to the weather office, Baripada recorded the highest rainfall of 156 mm during the last 24 hours until 8.30 am on Thursday. Mayurbhanj district experienced very heavy rainfall, while other districts such as Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Puri, Bolangir, Sundergarh, and Jajpur also witnessed heavy rainfall.
Satyabrata Sahoo, Odisha’s Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), noted the heavy rainfall in Bolangir, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, and Puri districts and the possibility of low visibility, submergence of roads/bridges, and inundation of low-lying areas.
He instructed the use of pumps for dewatering, clearance of drainage channels, and evacuation of people from low-lying areas if necessary.
Chandigarh, the shared capital of two states, received 23.8 mm of rainfall.
