IMD: Low-intensity monsoon activity to continue this week | Mumbai News – Times of India


Mumbai: Rain activity is expected to continue over the week for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar, but there could be a reduction in intensity.
For Monday, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for Mumbai, indicating heavy rain at isolated places, and an ‘orange’ alert for Thane, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places.
In the 24-hour period ending Sunday 8.30am, IMD Santacruz and Colaba observatories recorded 82.6mm and 46.4mm rain, respectively. BMC’s automated weather systems recorded an average of 73mm rainfall in the eastern suburbs, 69mm in the western suburbs, and 51mm in the island city during the same period. In the nine-hour period ending Sunday 5.30am, IMD Santacruz and Colaba stations recorded 8.4mm and 19.2mm rain, respectively.
IMD officials said the weather conditions over several pa-rts of Maharashtra are favouring good rainfall conditions, and moderate to heavy spells will continue till Monday 8.30 am. Then, the intensity may decrease. On Sunday, the total water stock in the 7 lakes stood at 95.27% of the required quantum of 14.47 lakh million litres.
