IMD issues orange alert for Telangana; heavy rains, thunderstorms expected | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for multiple districts in Telangana, warning of heavy rainfall, severe thunderstorms, and gusty winds over the coming days.
The orange alert covers Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Medak, and Kamareddy, while yellow warning is issued for the rest of Telangana.
IMD officials cautioned that thunderstorms will be accompanied by lightning, winds reaching 40-50 kmph, and even hailstorms in some areas. “The incoming rain is expected to provide much-needed relief from the scorching heat, with temperatures soaring past 41° Celsius in several parts of the state,” an official said.
Weather expert T Balaji predicted that severe thunderstorms would hit Telangana from April 2, with the worst expected in North Telangana on April 3 and 4. “Intense storms will also impact Central and South Telangana later in the period,” he added.
Hyderabad is likely to experience at least two powerful thunderstorms during this spell. Authorities have urged residents to stay cautious and follow official advisories.
