IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall in Odisha as Low-Pressure System Approaches | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall in coastal and interior districts on Nov 27 and 28 due to a low pressure system that is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal.
Manorama Mohanty, head of the regional IMD centre, said the system might intensify into a depression and move towards Tamil Nadu, triggering heavy rainfall across south peninsular India from Nov 26 to 28. “While there’s no indication of the system developing into a cyclonic storm, we are keeping a close watch,” said Mohanty.
Districts like Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Koraput, and Malkangiri are likely to experience rainfall. Night temperatures are expected to rise by 2°C to 3°C next week due to cloud formation and precipitation.
Meanwhile, parts of the state continue to experience cold conditions. Kandhamal’s G Udayagiri and Semiliguda in Koraput district recorded the lowest temperatures at 8°C and 8.7°C respectively, followed by Phulbani at 10°C. Bhubaneswar recorded 17°C, slightly below normal.
In Rourkela, dense fog reduced visibility to 50 metres during early morning hours causing traffic disruptions on busy roads.
