Illegal liquor shops razed in Cuttack | Bhubaneswar News

Cuttack: An enforcement team of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) demolished unauthorised liquor shops in Gorkha colony here on Friday, following repeated complaints from locals.
The operation, led by CMC deputy commissioner Swetapadma Satpathy, began early morning with a team of officials and heavy machinery deployed at the site.
“CMC is committed to ensuring a safe and healthy environment for the residents of Cuttack. We will not tolerate illegal activities that disrupt public peace,” said Satpathy.
Local residents have complained about the alleged nuisance created by these establishments. “For years, we have suffered due to noise, rowdy behaviour and crimes associated with these illegal outlets. It was difficult to walk on the road safely,” said Ranjan Behera, a resident.
Sources alleged police inaction, claiming that law enforcement officials received monthly payments from the illegal shop owners.
The civic body has announced to continue the crackdown on unauthorised businesses across the city. “We appeal to residents to report such activities. Strict action will be taken without exception,” Satpathy added.
