Berhampur: An expert team from IIT Madras visited the identified black spots in Berhampur on Thursday, as a part of its plan to provide solutions to road safety challenges in the state. Police have identified at least eight places on both NH-16 and NH-59 as accident-prone areas.
The team, led by Venkatesh Balasubramanian, head of IIT Madras’s Centre of Excellence for Road Safety, also visited the trauma care centre of MKCG Medical College and Hospital and spoke with Berhampur SP, Saravana Vivek M.
“The discussion focused on innovative solutions for road safety in Berhampur, emphasising enforcement, road safety measures, and data-driven interventions to curb accidents,” said the SP.
“The team shared their expertise on leveraging data-driven approaches to enhance road safety, aligning with the state’s vision for reducing accidents and improving traffic management,” he said. “The team also stressed the importance of implementing similar measures in other areas as short-term solutions to prevent accidents,” he added.
