IIT Kanpur Organizes Cybersecurity Awareness Workshop for Safer Internet Day 2025 | Mumbai News – The Times of India

MUMBAI: The Computer Centre at IIT Kanpur organised a cybersecurity awareness workshop at Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIT Kanpur to observe Safer Internet Day 2025.
The programme, which followed the global theme “Together for a Better Internet,” attracted nearly 95 students and teachers who participated in a detailed session about digital safety and responsible internet usage.
The interactive session was conducted by Debpriya Basu Roy, Assistant Professor of Computer Science Engineering at IIT Kanpur. The session addressed current digital safety concerns, highlighting various cyber threats that young internet users commonly face.

Today’s workshop aimed to empower students with practical knowledge and tools to protect themselves in the digital space, ensuring they can harness the internet’s potential while staying safe from its risks. The session encompassed various subjects, including current cyber threats, basic cyber hygiene practices, discussions on recent cyber incidents, and proper incident reporting procedures. The participants took part in hands-on demonstrations and interactive activities to strengthen their understanding of safe internet practices.
This programme is part of a national initiative led by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to promote safer digital practices among young internet users in India. The event demonstrates IIT Kanpur’s dedication to social responsibility and its efforts to enhance digital literacy in educational institutions.
The workshop received positive feedback from all participants, with students and teachers noting its relevance in the current digital environment. The successful outcome highlights the need for ongoing cybersecurity education and awareness, especially for young internet users who face increasing digital risks.
