MUMBAI: This past week, the iconic Haj Ali Dargah hosted the annual Desi Sehri party at its premises. It drew guests from diverse communities and celebrated Ramzan’s spirit of caring, patience and spreading happiness.
The guests began walking to the shrine premises from Haji Ali Juice Centre as vehicles are not allowed from there. The pathway connecting the main road to the Dargah gate saw guests flocking to the Sufi shrine‘s campus.
Suhail Khandwani, managing trustee of Mahim and Haji Ali Dargahs, welcomed the guests with a muffler carrying India’s tricolour.
“The gathering was celebration of our cherished tradition and an opportunity to connect, reflect and enjoy a peaceful evening,” said Khandwani.
Guests took their seats of the sofa even as waiters served khujoor (dates) and kahwa.
The dinner comprising multi cuisine catered by Jaffer Bhai’s Delhi Durbar had special attraction. Nehari, kebabs, keema and gurda were had with bread and rumali rotis. Biryani too was served.
Once they had finished dinner, the guests came to the counter which served piping hot malpuas and firni. The sweet dish firni came in tiny earthen pots.
