IAS Officer: Centre approves return of senior IAS officer Manoj Ahuja to Odisha | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Ahead of an imminent reshuffle in the bureaucracy, the Centre on Tuesday gave its nod to allow senior IAS officer Manoj Ahuja’s return to Odisha from central deputation. The development comes as the newly elected BJP govt in the state wanted the Centre to facilitate Ahuja’s return to Odisha.
“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved repatriation of Ahuja to his parent cadre on the request of the govt of Odisha,” read an order from the department of personnel and training.
The return of Ahuja, who held the post of Union agriculture secretary, has intensified speculation surrounding the next chief secretary as incumbent Pradeep Jena’s tenure, which was extended by six months, is set to end on June 30.
While Ahuja is considered a strong contender for the post, other names such as Satyabrata Sahu, Anu Garg and Nikunja Bihari Dhal are also being discussed.
Jena, a 1989-batch IAS officer, took charge as the chief secretary on March 1, 2023. Jena was scheduled to retire from service on December 31, 2023 but was granted a six-month extension effective from January 1, 2024.
“The new govt will look to form its own team of officers. Some other officers, who are currently on central deputation, are likely to make a comeback,” a source in the govt said.
The chief minister’s office (CMO) currently has almost no officials, as the position of principal secretary and private secretary to the CM been lying vacant for around five years.
At least seven retired officials who held posts in the CMO have resigned following the change of guard, and some hand-picked secretaries working in other departments, who served in the CMO as officers on special duty, were relieved of their positions.
