Patna: In a major crackdown on contraband substances, customs officials at Gaya International Airport seized 8.8kg of hydroponic ganja worth Rs 8.8crore, from a passenger arriving from Bangkok, Thailand, on Saturday.
According to an official statement issued by the customs on Sunday, the passenger, identified as Sachin Narayani, was carrying the contraband in his suitcase.
“During the inspection of luggage from international flights at Gaya airport, customs officials found suspicious items in the suitcase of Sachin, who arrived on flight TG 327 from Bangkok. Upon opening the suitcase, they discovered hydroponic ganja concealed in vacuum-sealed plastic pouches. The items were seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Sachin, originally from Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, is being interrogated for further information about the network involved in the smuggling racket,” the official statement said.
