Hyderabad student overcomes brain clot to excel in SSC exams

Hyderabad: Undeterred by a blood clot that formed in her brain just over a month ago, class X student A Saathvika dug deep to summon an impressive performance in the SSC examinations, scoring 511 marks out of a total of 600.
A student of Govt High School in Nallakunta, Saathvika was writing her Hindi pre-finals exam when she collapsed in the examination hall. She was rushed to a hospital where doctors diagnosed that she had a blood clot in her brain. She even had to sit out her physics pre-finals owing to her health.

While this would’ve come as a major setback, Saathvika was determined to succeed, and appeared for the exams even as she underwent treatment.
“I had a seizure and fainted while writing the Hindi pre-finals exam. I was taken to the hospital immediately where doctors did some tests and informed us that I have a clot in the brain,” the 16-year-old told TOI.
Saathvika’s mother works as a babysitter, while her father runs a binding shop.
“I decided that I would not put myself under any pressure and wrote the exams without much preparation,” she said, adding that she is pleased with her performance as she got more marks than she expected.
“I have to give credit to my teachers as well, as they took extra care. They also taught us well, because of which I could score over 500 marks,” she added.
A resident of Amber Nagar in the city, Saathvika aspires to become an interior designer. “I will be opting for MPC in intermediate. I became interested in this course after seeing a presentation on career options in my school,” said the teenager.
“We are happy with her performance. Owing to her health, we would have been happy even if she managed to pass. But she put in a lot of effort and excelled in the exam,” said Saathvika’s mother Punyavathi. “I studied only till class 7. I want my daughter to pursue higher studies and reach a good position in life,” Punyavathi said.

Her teachers said that she is one of the toppers from the school. “Despite her health condition, she performed well and managed to score good marks. She is one of the toppers and has great potential,” said M Ravindra, Saathvika’s maths teacher.
