Hyderabad: A coordination meeting was held at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) on Thursday regarding the preparations for the upcoming Bakrid festival. Hyderabad police commissioner CV Anand convened the meeting with various departments, including GHMC, HMWSSB, electricity, and veterinary services. The commissioner instructed the establishment of check-posts around the Hyderabad city commissionerate to prevent the illegal transportation of animals without proper veterinary certificates or those not ready for slaughter. Vehicles found violating these rules are to be seized and immediately sent to GHMC-designated animal holding points or goshalas. The commissioner appealed to the public and gorakshak members not to take the law into their own hands, emphasising that only govt officials and law enforcement agencies are authorised to stop or inspect vehicles carrying animals. The animal husbandry department and GHMC were requested to ensure the availability of 24/7 veterinary doctors at all check-posts. GHMC officials were advised to deploy dog-catching squads in all areas before Bakrid to manage stray dogs. They were also instructed to supply disposal covers to every household for the disposal of animal carcasses.
