Hyderabad: Brihaspathi Technologies, based in Hyderabad, has emerged as a frontrunner in India’s surveillance and security landscape. From securing international borders to monitoring one of the world’s largest religious congregations, the software and IT services company has made significant strides in providing cutting-edge CCTV solutions.
The company successfully deployed cameras along the borders of India and Bangladesh and India and Pakistan, as well as in Kaziranga National Park and during the just-concluded Kumbh Mela. “After Sheikh Hasina resigned in Bangladesh, we had installed cameras to monitor sensitive areas along the border. These cameras capture any suspicious activity or objects simultaneously, allowing agencies to respond immediately instead of spending hours reviewing footage,” company managing director Rajasekhar Papolu recalled.
In the recent Kumbh Mela, Brihaspathi Technologies deployed over 4,000 CCTV cameras to ensure safety and order during the massive religious gathering. What began as a small venture with a handful of employees has now grown to a thriving team of over 200 skilled individuals, all equipped with strong analytical expertise to manage and implement large-scale surveillance systems.
The company’s vision extends beyond conventional security. By integrating artificial intelligence into their camera systems, Brihaspathi Technologies monitored key national events, such as the Lok Sabha elections, deploying more than one lakh cameras across various polling booths to ensure smooth and secure elections. This use of technology has been transformative, with the company achieving an impressive annual turnover of Rs 230 crore, up from a modest Rs 5 lakh a decade ago.
Rajasekhar says Brihaspathi Technologies aims to become one of India’s leading indigenous manufacturers of surveillance cameras. “I was a computer engineer from Hyderabad and started an SMS marketing service in 2016. As technology advanced, we adapted and expanded, moving into assembling and supplying CCTV cameras. Now, we are looking to take the next big step—building our own manufacturing unit as part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative. We’ve sought 20 acres of land from the Telangana govt, and if granted, we’ll be among the first to establish a manufacturing unit in the region,” he told TOI.
He continued, “Until now, most companies have sourced parts from countries like Vietnam. Our goal is to reverse that trend. We have already installed over a million cameras across India, incorporating video analytics and edge analytics for a more tailored security experience. One of the proudest moments for us was installing over one lakh cameras during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, being a dominant force in webcasting the world’s largest democratic event.”
Rajasekhar, who came from a humble background, is determined to take his mission forward. “I remember when Rs 1 lakh meant a lot to me. Now, we’ve installed cameras worth Rs 40 lakh at Kaziranga park. My vision is to reach a turnover of Rs 10,000 crore in the next five years and inspire young entrepreneurs to dream big,” he claimed.
The company has also made progress in other areas, including e-Security solutions, home automation, app development, software development, IoT Services, IT products, and AI solutions.
